Music I'd Listen To

Today in the car as I was driving to Son's school I heard Rick Springfield's "Don't Talk to Strangers" on the radio, which caused me to think about all the music I like and sing along to, but probably wouldn't put on my iPod (never say never).
So I offer a list of songs (in no particular order) that I'm usually glad to hear on Pop radio, but probably wouldn't buy or download. Please offer your own guilty (alone in the car, singing along) pleasures.
  1. "One Night in Bangkok" Murray Head
  2. "Livin' On a Prayer" Bon Jovi
  3. "Photograph" Def Leppard
  4. "Back in Black" AC/DC
  5. "If This Is It" Huey Lewis & The News
  6. "Our Lips Are Sealed" The Go-Gos (actually, I might buy this one...)
  7. "Your Love" The Outfield
  8. "All I Need is a Miracle" Mike + The Mechanics
  9. "Something About You" Level 42 (and this one)
  10. "If You Leave" OMD
  11. "Panama" Van Halen
  12. "Angel is Centerfold" J Geils Band
  13. Fleetwood Mac (just, in general)
  14. "Don't You Want Me" Human League
  15. "Holding Back the Years" Simply Red
Okay. That's just a start. I'm still trying to think of a song by a man/woman duo...just can't remember the name or any of the lyrics....maybe it was about love? **(Obsession by Animotion)

Good list but I must confess I have 3 and 4 on my ipod. Here are a few of mine:
Safety Dance- Men Without Hats
Pop Music- ??
In Cars- Gary Numan
Amadeus- Falco
One Night in Bangkok- Murray Head
Anything Devo
B52's
That is it for now. Good luck getting songs you DONT want on your iPod.

Oh, all sorts of crap! My frame of reference--I take it that part of this is music we heard when we were young, catchy music--is older, so it would have more classic rock and pop. The difference is, I don't have any shame whatsoever about this kind of music, so would have it on my iPod in a second. My son-in-law was mocking the Spin Doctors, and I totally understand why, but I love their little stash of hits and I'm asking myself, why isn't Pocket Full of Kryptonite on my iPod? I would so get a charge out of it if it came on. Doobie Bros. (there is no defense!), that Dan Fogelberg song (I bought it), one or two Backstreet Boys songs and one, only one, Celine Dion, which is heaven to sing along with on the radio. Heaven!

Just saw Erin Alice's list--I loved! Safety Dance. From the golden age of MTV. Loved that song!

I was once surprised by the laughter of a neighboring car because I was, without being aware of it, singing at the top of my lungs at a stoplight to the radio blasting Journey's "Suzanne" (from _Raised on Radio_, if you want to go download it).

Of the list you provided, I definitely have a goodly number: 1. "One Night in Bangkok" Murray Head
3. "Photograph" Def Leppard
4. "Back in Black" AC/DC
6. "Our Lips Are Sealed" The Go-Gos
7. "Your Love" The Outfield
9. "Something About You" Level 42
10. "If You Leave" OMD
11. "Panama" Van Halen
14. "Don't You Want Me" Human League

I think that Outfield song is sublime. (And, Lisa B., I also have Doobie Brothers, and am a sucker for your fave Dan F. song, though I draw the line at Celine Dion.) I think I have Safety Dance (and flash on Pauly Shore in Biodome every time I hear it). I have Falco's Amadeus too. And Barry Manilow (the dude can sometimes write a hell of a song). I have Rick Springfield on vinyl, though I really think his best album is _Hard to Hold_. (Yes, I said the words "best album" and "Rick Springfield" in the same sentence.) I have "Der Kommisar" by BOTH Falco and After the Fire. I have A-ha. I have three tremendous songs by Wang Chung, which no one will ever convince me aren't High Art. What do I not have? Shame. No shame. No apologies. Do me do me do, do me rock me.

Yea, I love Aha!! Take.On.Me. Lisa b. I have a Mariah Carey song on my iPod for the same reason as well and there is no shame. I love music!!

Doobie Brothers can *so* be defended! And I saw 'em live this summer--they rocked! (In that funky guitar way they have...)

(Which just goes to show I really have no shame about the music I enjoy...)

I tend to buy whatever I sing along to. Hence my rather full collection of Fleetwood Mac.
However, I own no Bee Gees and I own no Blondie. Either one, were I to hear them on the radio, I'd sing along to. Erin's list is pretty right on though. That Pop Music, talk about it. That's good song. And Video Killed the Radio Star. And Billy Joel's Bosom-Buddy song, "Leave Me Alone." Also, his song about white-wall tires.
